I’m so thankful that I was born under the Pisces sign because I feel things deeply, even for the tiniest stuff! Where others might brush off small progress as not enough, I recognize the emotional weight behind them. I find magic in the mundane and I appreciate imperfect steps.

And because Pisces energy leans into flow over force, I’m more wired to value consistency, rhythm, and movement … even if it’s slow, even if it’s small. Luckily enough, I get to translate this to my productivity as well.

Here’s how I use small wins to stay motivated at what I do and build consistency!

🏆What are small wins?

Small wins are tangible and quick-to-achieve actions that may seem minor on the surface but carry major momentum beneath them. They’re the kind of steps that don’t require hours of effort or perfect conditions.

Let me give some examples:

  • writing 100 words instead of waiting to feel inspired to finish a whole blog post
  • doing 5 minutes of meditation to reset your nervous system,
  • or simply clearing your desk at the end of the day to create a sense of calm

These moments of progress might feel small, but they create a ripple effect. Psychologically, each small win triggers a release of dopamine, the feel-good chemical, which fuels your motivation and builds your confidence to keep going.

For me, each of my tiny wins builds my confidence. I feel that I become more capable without feeling overwhelmed or being pressured to be perfect. I’m able to reinforce my identity that I show up and I have the momentum to just go on.

I notice that when my little victories stack up, they really result in the real lasting change I initially hoped for.

🏆How Do I Identify My Small Wins

I start by breaking down my goals into what can be doable within the day, within the hour I set.

I ask myself these questions:

  • Can I complete this in 10 minutes or less?
  • What’s the minimum I can do to move forward today?
  • What feels light but still meaningful?
  • Does this move me even one step closer to my bigger goal?
  • Is this action clear and specific?
  • If I did only this today, would I still feel like I showed up for myself?

Somehow, these questions shift my focus from pressure to progress.

For example, instead of aiming to “write a blog post,” my small win would be “outline the introduction”. Instead of organizing the whole closet, it might be “clear one drawer.

These bite-sized actions reduce my overwhelm and they make it easier for me to take that first step, because in reality, once I start it, my momentum just builds up.

My hack is to choose tasks that are small enough to complete, but they’re significant enough to feel like I’m progressing.

🏆How My Small Wins Build Consistency

Because my focus is on completing manageable actions every day, I feel that it helps me build a habit of showing up. On days when I feel not so motivated or simply lazy, I still get to show up.

Somehow, this act of doing, just doing has become ingrained in my routine and because it’s as such, it has become regular for me to accomplish tasks which I know I really can finish within the day.

It starts with a tiny step and then the momentum rolls and before I know it, the task is already done. Within that time frame, I get to muster up my confidence that I can follow through the next task. Consistency just comes natural eventually.

What also helps with this consistency is I don’t forget to reward myself for the small wins I get to achieve. These rewards are not even big! For example, I treat myself to comfort food or I watch a quick episode of a Korean drama series I’m following. I even share my wins on my Instagram stories! This also helps me be accountable.

🏆How to Stay Motivated (Even When It Feels Slow)

Over the years, I realized that this is really just about reframing my mindset. Being a Piscean has helped me on this one, but I also worked on reinforcing my mentality.

My Piscean soul understands that transformation is rarely loud or dramatic. It’s often quiet, subtle, and built on one tiny shift at a time.  Shifting my focus to small wins reignites my drive and it helps me feel like I’m moving forward.

Given this mentality, I get to stay motivated even when it feels slow.

Instead of focusing on how far I still have to go, I remind myself that slow progress is still progress. Every step forward, no matter how small, brings me closer to my goal.

I send myself a scheduled email every two weeks as a way to congratulate myself for all the things I’ve accomplished in that time frame. I write down even the tiniest victories because they help me see just how much I’m actually accomplishing.

I also have accountability buddies for support and for a reminder that I’m not alone in this journey towards success.

When I think and act that all of my wins are worth mentioning and celebrating, it helps me stay motivated at what I do.

🏆Using the Small Wins Approach in My Passion Project

It’s not easy to maintain a blog consistently, but using the small wins approach in my passion project has truly helped me sustain the work involved in it.

When I first started my blog, I had big dreams and a lot of enthusiasm. But after the first two years, I found myself overwhelmed by the idea of creating long posts, promoting on social media, engaging with other bloggers, learning SEO, and many others.

I kept setting high expectations for myself and when I couldn’t meet those expectations, I felt defeated and discouraged. I stopped blogging in my 3rd year and it has become stagnant for 7 years thereafter.. Just imagine!

The truth is, I wasn’t making consistent progress and that slowed me down and killed my passion.

That’s when I decided to try the small wins approach. Instead of focusing on huge tasks like writing a whole post or revamping the entire blog, I broke everything down into bite-sized steps. One of my first small wins was writing just 500 words a day. Some days, it was even less! But I did it every day, and over time, those small increments added up.

Next, I started focusing on tiny tasks like researching one keyword, drafting a blog title, or even just setting up the structure for the next post. These wins didn’t seem like much, but they kept me moving forward. I started an excel file to track my micro-achievements and every time I saw the list growing, I felt motivated to keep going.

The most surprising part was the shift in my mindset. As I celebrated each small win, I began to see myself as someone who shows up consistently, even if it’s just for 30 minutes a day.

It was about my slow steady progress. And that consistency eventually built momentum, allowing me to keep my blog running steadily and grow my content.

Now, my blog feels less like a daunting mountain to climb and more like a series of small, manageable steps. Small wins have not only kept me motivated but also helped me stay committed to my passion for creating content and serving my audience.

🏆Patience and Compassion are Key

To truly harness the power of small wins, remember that patience and compassion are key. These two worked for me.

As they say, consistency will always trump intensity. It’s not about making massive leaps, but about showing up regularly, even in small ways.

I no longer wait for motivation to strike. The truth is that action is what keeps me going, not motivation.  The more I take those small steps, the more motivated I feel.

It’s good to track patterns. I notice what types of small wins work best for me and I lean into those strategies.

Let’s not forget to practice self-compassion. I realized that I’m more likely to stick to my goals because I’m kinder to myself. Instead of beating myself up for missing a goal or feeling behind, I just gently redirect myself back on track.

I’m patient, forgiving, and persistent because I know I’m in this for the long haul.

What about you? Do use the power of small wins, too?
