Canada is a known country to have amazing landscapes and various provinces to be diverse when it comes to the scenery. The people in Canada have a very deep connection to nature and spending time outside of their houses during summer and fall seasons.

Even though it has been only a couple of years living in this country, the beauty of the country as well as the quality of what it has to offer when it comes to outdoors has me deep rooted in love. That goes beyond just appreciating the scenery, it is also about embracing the lifestyle. On a side note, if you want to know the key success to migrating to Canada, I have written an article on this. You can read it here.

The outdoors foster family bonding, mental and physical well-being, and habits of appreciating simple joys in life. Outdoor activities the country of maple has to offer are opportunities to engage in activities as a family including my two-year-old son. Spending good time outdoors as a family is not just about making long lasting memories but also about reaping benefits of physical, emotional and developmental skills.

After a long time away from my mother as I was pursuing my career goals in Canada away from my home country Sri Lanka, my mother and my brother flew to Canada to visit my family. I made the choice of visiting several landmarks, some globally known locations and some not, in the Ontario province where I live.

I wanted to mix things up with the outdoor activities so that I would be able to seek multiple interests like adventure, education, and knowledge as well as some relaxation by the calm waters and refreshing air. Out of all the locations we visited and had fun doing different engaging activities, these below are the highlights and worth mentioning:

The Ripley’s Aquarium

The Ripley’s aquarium in Toronto is a must place to visit with kids. Although the majority of the things there is targeted for kids, it is a very educational and fun place for adults to visit as well. Our son was captivated by the colorful fish as well as the huge other species of fish and the play area.

My son enjoyed seeing varieties of fish for the first time in his life from the playful penguins to the colorful and mesmerizing jellyfish. It was not only an educational journey my son had at the aquarium, but also a visual treat that allowed him to spark his imagination and curiosity.

Canada’s Wonderland

Canada’s wonderland is one of the very few places I went to without my son as the nature of the activities it has to offer and the adventurous environment does not suite a 2 year old. Although the adventure park is filled with thrilling rides and water activities that will raise adrenaline levels, there are rides that suit a toddler and nevertheless, me and my spouse decided to go there without our son considering his safety and knowing my son will not enjoy the time there.

Niagara Falls

My visit to Niagara falls was one of the memories I have that I will be able to preserve for a very long time. Apart from the whole area being covered in mist which made the roads and attractions cool on a sunny day, the other reason it was a day filled with memories because my mother and my brother was with me when we travelled together.

The amazement and joy they had on their faces when. looking at the Niagara Falls which is one of the iconic natural locations in the world which attracts millions of people per year. Maybe it is due to multiple reasons like the impressive beauty the waterfall has, the immense power of the water that is being rushed to the ground, as well as the significant historical and cultural importance it holds.

CN Tower

The visit to the CN tower was on the same day and only hours apart from when me and my family visited the Ripley’s aquarium as it is just right next to it. In my opinion visiting this iconic tower is a must for a family if visiting Canada or living in Canada. People who live in far away provinces even sometimes visit the Toronto city just to get to the top floor of the CN tower to look and appreciate the bird’s eye view of the Toronto city and far away cities. There is a glass floor experience at the CN tower which make everyone no matter their age a thrilling one. I remember my mother was fearing for a her life when stepping onto the glass bottom and of course the glass is made with very high thickness that there is no risk on doing that.

Port Stanley and Grand Bend

Port Stanley and grand bend were two beaches we visited and appreciation of nature is something that I wanted to introduce to my son every time we step outside of the house. For those who love the waters and a relaxing time while staring at the never ending sea, these two locations are the perfect place. My son loved the sandy shores and I was prepared with some toys for him to dig sand and play as well as splashing water at the shallow waters.

Looking back at all the outdoor activities me and my family enjoyed, some free and somehad entrance fee that we had to pay, every single moment was worth and cannot be measuredwith the money we spent.

Canada has many outdoor attractions to offer and the country specially utilizes the weather and seasons accordingly when opening up for attractions. This blog focuses on the activities and memories I made during the summer time although there are many outdoor activities to enjoy during the winter times too and I am planning already for what we will participate and make more memories for ourselves and our son.

I invite everyone who reads this to consider the benefits of outdoor activities which can be individual participation or participating as a family and in any country not only in Canada. The joy, mental health, physical health as well as the bond you have with your family as well as with the nature will be more tightened and the benefits are invaluable.
