The word, ‘open house’, comes to my mind when I hear about the Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Yes, open house! For the past 6 years, I was fortunate enough to have been invited for the said celebration in the homes of my students and colleagues.
This is the time of the year when I feel that tinge of inspiration towards the strong relationship of Bruneian families. You will notice that the neighborhood becomes alive with brilliant decorations and vibrant lights. You will see former classmates and colleagues coming together to celebrate this religious festival. Children and teenagers are enthusiastic to meet their cousins and relatives whom they have not seen for a long time.
In keeping with the event, the malls also become festive with grand sales and special promotions. They are packed with people who are busy buying gifts, cloth materials, goods, furniture, and home ornaments. Even the night markets become eventful with more sightseers, street food variety and discounted goods!
Hari Raya Aidilfitri reminds the entire community of their families, relatives, friends and puts a smile on every one’s face. Indeed, it is a joyous event!
This year will be my last time to witness and celebrate the Hari Raya Aidilfitri as I will be leaving this country for good.
Allow me to share with you some photos that highlight this festive season: my Hari Raya fete over the years!
Selamat Hari Raya!
Good luck Neri…this is nice..😀
